How to Participate
How to be a part of the Festival
South African students between the age of 13 and 26 are welcome to apply to attend the festival. Application forms will be available from February each year. Acceptance is not guaranteed, as the festival normally has more applicants than it can accommodate.
Students may also apply for financial assistance, provided by Standard Bank and SAMRO, as well as a transport subsidy if they live outside the Eastern Cape. These application forms will also be available from February each year.
Teachers are encouraged to participate in the SBNYJF as part of developing South African youth jazz. Teachers wishing to be considered as part of the festival teaching staff are to contact the Festival Director, Alan Webster (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Musicians wishing to perform on the Main Jazz Stage of the National Arts Festival as individuals or as part of an established band can contact Alan Webster (email@example.com). The choice of performers each year is intended to reflect different jazz styles in South Africa; to show South African jazz heritage; and to acknowledge artistic integrity and excellence.
